Your thyroid and parathyroid glands are located near the base of your neck (below the spot where a man’s Adam’s apple is located). Their job is to secrete hormones. These hormones play a role in metabolism, cardiovascular function, protein systhesis, normal development, and even produce calcitonin, which helps regulate blood calcium levels. They also help to regulate sexual function, sleep, and even thought patterns. The thyroid’s ability to function correctly is regulated by a hormone called TSH which is produced in the anterior pituitary gland.
