Ten Year Reflection
Over the last ten years, Catholic Medical Center has expanded the scope of services, grown structurally and forged strategic partnerships with community organizations and other health care providers. CMC has much to celebrate and we are proud to be your community hospital, delivering state-of-the-art health care right in New Hampshire.

November 30, 1998 – Alyson Pitman Giles, FACHE, President and CEO hired.

February 25, 1999 – A new era of medicine begins at CMC.

July 22, 1999 – New England Heart Institute celebrates its 10,000th cardiac surgery, a successful coronary artery bypass surgery.

May 13, 2002 – CMC welcomed maternity services back to the hospital with the opening of The Mom’s Place in May of 2002. The first baby, a boy, was born on

May 13, 2002 – To date, over 900 babies are born at The Mom’s Place each year.

April 2, 2003 – Ground breaking for the 72,000 square foot addition, which included space for a new lobby and front entrance, new space for the Emergency Department, new space for the New England Heart Institute, increased and new space for the Intensive Care Unit and a helipad. This project was the first major building project since 1981. It was completed in June 2004.

January 2003 – First laparoscopic robot-assisted radical prostatectomy, a surgery to treat prostate cancer, is performed by Dr. John Munoz. CMC was the first hospital in New England to perform this type of procedure and, to date, over 800 of these have been performed at CMC.

June 21, 2006 – Ground breaking for the new 50,000 square foot Notre Dame Pavilion, the 750-space parking garage, the pedestrian sky bridge over McGregor Street and ten new state-of-the-art operating suites. The parking garage opened in

May 2007 – the operating suites were completed in October 2007, the Notre Dame Pavilion opened in February 2008 and the sky bridge was accessible in April 2008.

January 2008 – Catholic Medical Center’s primary care practices expand to include nine practices throughout the greater Manchester area, affiliating with the hospital, more than 30 providers available to meet your health care needs.

The New England Heart Institute’s number of cardiologists on staff has increased from six cardiologists to twenty cardiologists. Additionally, over the years NEHI expands satellite locations from three to eight community hospitals in New Hampshire.

With the opening of the Notre Dame Pavilion in February 2008, CMC partners with Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center to expand cancer care treatment in southern New Hampshire. Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center offers patients in the Manchester area cancer research knowledge, clinical expertise, and integrated, evidence-based cancer care close to home.

CMC’s Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology Department has maintained at the forefront of technology by updating diagnostic testing from a 16-slice CT to a 64-slice CT, from a 1.5T MRI scanner to a 3.0T MRI and converting to digital images with Picture Archival Communication System (PACS).

CMC’s new chapel on Level A is expected to open in January 2009.
